Blog Entry: is it not about time that aviation made the headlines for something positive happening?
upon opening the newspaper this morning i was confronted wiv the news of a british glider pilot being killed in a mid-air.... don't get me wrong, im not callous and cold hearted i do genuinely feel for the affected people and yes it bothers me that a sport i partake in has claimed another life... but the media make it out to be so dangerous, more people die in road accidents than air accidents, yet driving isn't portrayed as such a dangerous activity... remember the media only publicises what it suits them to!
sad as it may be im still disappointed that all the fantastic things that glider pilots have achieved this year never made the headlines!
does no one appreciate the fact that here in the UK we have some of the worlds best junior glider pilots? hello media the UK won the world championship for the 2nd year running! no wonder getting and keeping new members to the sport is a struggle when they only see the downside!!!!!
