Title: Type Ride
Category: full of life
Blog Entry: Just got back from my Falcon 20/Airline Transport Pilot checkride. Holy crap, that was by far the hardest test I have ever done! 5 hour ground test covering the systems and abnormal stuff followed up by a tough performance problem all done out of the graphs in the book by hand with work shown. The flight test started out with a V1 cut coming out of Willow Run, then we flew to Flint and did steep turns, 3 stalls(1 clean, 1 approach, 1 landing to a full recovery). Unusual attitudes in a jet is CRAZY. My DE got that thing wrapped up pretty darn good, the nose low one was pitched down 50 degrees and accelerating rapidly, the guy is pretty good. Pretty neat experience though, it was a first for me. By this time it was night and we did an engine shutdown in flight with an airstart. After that we did an ILS to 100 feet, missed to an NDB hold with 3 turns. After that we did a single engine Localizer approach to a single engine missed, around to a single engine, 0 degree flap VOR circle to land full stop. Simulated 600 foot RVR takeoff, back to Willow Run for another ILS to 100 feet but I used the flight director on this one to a full stop and then we did an aborted takeoff and the checkride was done! That was by far the most work, yet challenging and rewarding experience I have ever had! From here on out you'll hear me as Kalitta 80 over the radio or KFS80 on the flight trackers. There is the gouge on the Falcon 20 type ride! Be safe out there!
