are there any requirements for mode s transponders to be fitted in US aircraft? as its a proposition that they r tryin to bring in over here that all aircraft (except m,ilitary) must carry a mode s trandponder, including microlights, gliders, paragliders etc. no transponder will= no flying!

any thoughts in this situation?

I believe the only requirement here in the USA is for Mode S transponders to replace all Mode C transponders by a certain date. So in order to operate where Mode C was once required, you will now need a Mode S capable transponder. I haven't heard of any requirements for ALL aircraft to have a transponder.

I haven't heard anything about that. But identifying the aircraft in our airspace is not the worse idea you've come up with. I think the next big change will be that everyone will have to file a flight plan, VFR or IFR, every time they fly.

well the future of aviation seems a lil more stable here on the gliding front, just waiting for the feedback for all the correspondance the UK glider pilots sent in opposing the transponders

There is an art . . . to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
