When I grow up it is my dream to become a commercial airline pilot. I wanted to know how I could exactly follow that dream the quickest and easiest way. And what knowledge do you have to know also? It would also be very neat if I could get some insight form an actual pilot. Thankyou.

I'm not an Airline pilot but I know many. They've always said the Air Force is the best way. You get a load of hours through them and good training. Also with out the Air Force it would cost you loads of money to get that training. Flight Schools aren't cheap and fuel is getting even more expensive. For you I'd try and get your private license and continue to your commercial then join the military. The Officer Selection team will pick you up very quickly because you'll have most of the basic training done. Then you can move on to a fighter or bomber training. Airlines only hire those who have over 2,000 hours. So your best bet without going into debt is the Air Force. Hope this helps you out.

I would say, get a 4 year degree in something easy as quickly as you can out of HS, before you ever start flight training. Then once you have a 4 year go to ATP inc. and do their 90 day fast track program. I think they also have job placement assistance, not sure though. You will get a lot more multi time at ATP than you will at other programs. After that, flight instruct for 6 months to a year or until you can find a regional or freight job then its just a matter of playing the waiting game from there. Thats just my two cents. If I was going to do it over and wanted to be an airline pilot thats how I would do it. But I have no desire to be an airline pilot. The military is an option but you have to make that commitment. Just remember, airlines pay by seniority. The sooner you get in the door the sooner you start working your way up the seniority list. They kick you out at 60 so its game over at that point. If you use 6+ years of your life in the military thats 6+ years you cant use to work your way up the list. Hope that helps!

I fly for a major airline.  Flew in the Marines before.  You need a four year degree to fly military but not in the civilian world.  Go get a job at the local airport pumping gas, that is how most of us started.  If you are beyond that, go to the airport and ask them how much to learn to fly.  It costs alot but it is a great job and I have been flying for 30 years...................heck of a way to make a living!

Good luck....

Everyone is saying do a 4 year degree, well thats okay, but to be a little more specific try and do a degree you will enjoy but related in some way. My Degrees are in Physics and Avionics. These really helped in getting to where i wanted to be.

The best way to get to Airline pilot is to go through a well reputable place. This idea of 0 to ATPL is rubbish. A lot of major airlines, i know here at BA, are picky about where their pilots come from.

Also, always stride to be at the top of your class. Striving for just a pass sucks, if you are at the top, or there-abouts you are standing a fighting chance of getting selected for an Airline before you even leave flight school. This is always a bonus, when i left i was picked up by a low cost airline, and when i had a few hours behind me, and a degree from Oxford Aviation, BA were willing to take me on.

Its a tough world to get into, and if you don't put in the effort, 110% you wont get into itm, esspecially with Terrorism and things now.

Hope this helps. If you have any quyestions or anything like that get in touch with me through my profile.
