Question:
I am based in Memphis and I am planning my long commerical cross country flight. I am planning on flying to Knoxville direct, which is 298 nms. Here's my question. Can I fly to Knoxville on Monday, stay overnight, and then fly back to Memphis on Tuesday, with a stop in the middle, and call it one flight? The reason I ask is that I have to go visit my sister in Knoxville anyway and I would like to maximize my training dollar. The FARs say it has to be:
1. One cross-country flight of not less than 300 NM total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a straight-line distance of at least 250 NM from the original departure point
Even if I just flew out there, got gas, and started back, I woudl still have to stop in Knoxville. Does it really matter how long I stay there?
???
